Hurricane Season Off to a Big Start

Here we are less than two weeks into June, and we've already got Alberto making a go of it in the Gulf of Mexico.

One of VocaLabs' clients is Cellular South, and Hurricane Katrina made a mess of its coverage region last year. As a result, I've heard all kinds of horror stories and acts of heroism that came out of that calamity. Cellular South employees take considerable pride (and rightfully so) in the fact that they were the first to restore mobile phone service in big swaths of Louisiana and Mississippi after the hurricane roared through.

I've heard stories of network engineers who lived in Cellular South's "war room" for days during the storm, and technicians who rode out the storm in blockhouses next to antenna towers just so they could be in position to repair the damage that much faster.

Let's hope they don't have to do it again this year.
