First Class

Picking on the U.S. Post Office isn't entirely sporting--even though they do an amazing job for the price they charge.
Nevertheless, I had to laugh when I got a card in the mail from our real estate broker today (September 19th). It had a picture of an American flag, and contained the note "Hope you're having a great 4th of July."
It was postmarked June 29th.
This first class letter took nearly three months to travel from Edina to Golden Valley, a distance of about seven miles by road.
If you've got good Calculator-Fu, you'll find that this is an average speed of about 18.6 feet per hour. The world record speed in a snail race (isn't the Internet wonderful?) is 13 inches in two minutes 20 seconds, or about 28 feet per hour. This letter would have arrived weeks earlier had it been delivered via racing snail.
(I will spare my readers the dumb joke about racing snails.)
On the other had, I doubt I will ever again complain about slow traffic.
