There has been a long oral tradition in my family that we carry some American Indian ancestry, and some years ago I did some genealogy research on the family finding plenty of anecdotal evidence, but no proof of the Indian claim.

That was not terribly surprising, as in the 19th and well into the 20th century, being a "breed" had negative consequences and wasn't something shared with the neighbors. For example, while it was legal for an Indian to own land, no one would sell to an Indian, and it wasn't but about 80 years ago that Indians were granted the right to vote.

Social commentary aside, I found this article this morning, and thought I'd share it with our blog readers. In essence it proffers the idea that we could do a service to Native Americans by promoting the idea of reservation based call centers rather than outsourcing services to other countries. I'm not so naive as to not see some problems, but it HAS been done with some success and the idea is well worth passing along.
