To Trade Show or Not to Trade Show. That is The Question.

I expect more than a few readers have, as a part of their job duties, the responsibility for advertising and market promotions. In these times as we see the Net evolving as the primary way we get our industry information (versus traditional industry magazines) figuring out what the better promotion choices are presents some new challenges. But no matter what solutions we end up with, successful promotion of a company and its products still require some "face time".

There's probably someone who has made a formal study of the psychology of selling in the day of the Internet that can explain it better than I can, but my sense is that one importance of a trade show presence today is that it sends the message that the company is a real entity and not just a modern version of the fictitious Betty Crocker.

But how does one choose what shows to get involved with? Trade show promotion has become big business and I think if we were to exhibit VocaLabs at every one, we'd be on the road 52 weeks out of the year. Not a good way to actually perform our services, if we're spending too much time promoting versus doing.

So if you don't see a VocaLabs booth at some venue in 2006, know that we are real people with desks, computers and pictures of the kids rather than virtual people in a virtual company. And if we don't have a booth at a particular show, it's because real people have real responsibilities back at the office and with family.
